AMVCA 2025 Awards: Celebrating Excellence in African Film and Television
The 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) recently took place in Lagos, Nigeria, shining the spotlight on outstanding achievements in African film and television. The star-studded event honored talented individuals across 28 categories, including the newly introduced Best Music Score.
Big Winners at the AMVCA 2025
“Lisabi: The Uprising,” produced by and starring Lateef Adedimeji, emerged as a major winner, taking home three prestigious awards: Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa), Best Art Direction, and Best Makeup. The film’s historical drama narrative, set in the 1800s, captivated audiences and critics alike.
Other notable winners included “Freedom Way” by Blessing Uzzi, which won Best Movie, and “Seven Doors,” which claimed three awards, including Best Lead Actor (Femi Adebayo), Best Lead Actress (Chioma Chukwuka), and Best Music Score (Tolu Obanro).
Lifetime Achievement Awards and Trailblazer Recognition
The AMVCA 2025 also recognized the contributions of Nollywood veterans Nkem Owoh and Sani Mu’azu, who received Lifetime Achievement Awards for their dedication to the industry. Director Kayode Kasum was honored with the Trailblazer Award for his innovative storytelling and commitment to African cinema.
