Vinessa Shaw and Kristopher Gifford part ways after nearly 16 years of marriage.
Vinessa Shaw, best known for her role as Allison in the 1993 Halloween classic Hocus Pocus, is heading for divorce after nearly 16 years of marriage. Her husband, Kristopher Gifford, filed for divorce on Thursday, May 22, citing irreconcilable differences, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
Gifford, a graphic designer, listed their separation date as October 25, 2023. The couple married on November 20, 2007, making their split official just weeks before what would have been their 16th wedding anniversary.
As part of the filing, Gifford is seeking joint legal and physical custody of their 7-year-old son, Jack. He is not requesting spousal support.
Representatives for Shaw have not yet commented on the divorce filing.
The couple, who reside in Los Angeles, were last publicly seen together on Shaw’s Instagram in July 2023. She shared a photo of the two enjoying time at an axe-throwing range to celebrate her 46th birthday. A month prior, Shaw also posted a touching Father’s Day photo of Gifford hugging their son.
On his own Instagram, Gifford last posted a photo of Shaw in July 2023, featuring her in front of an American flag to mark Independence Day.
Shaw and Gifford welcomed their son Jack in February 2018. The actress announced the news on Instagram, sharing a black-and-white photo of the newborn’s hand. She wrote that after a complicated labor and delivery nearly three weeks past her due date, Jack was born healthy, weighing 9 pounds, 9 ounces.
“Needless to say, we are overjoyed about our new little addition!” Shaw wrote at the time. “He and I went through a lot, as the plans of having a natural birth were derailed. But with the support of so many people: family, midwives, and hospital staff, we came out victorious, healthy, and happy!”
Though Shaw gained widespread recognition for her role in Hocus Pocus, she did not return for the 2022 sequel. Her other notable film credits include Eyes Wide Shut, 3:10 to Yuma, and Two Lovers. More recently, she has appeared in television roles on series such as Yellowstone and the Cruel Intentions reboot.
As the divorce proceedings unfold, the actress and her estranged husband remain focused on co-parenting their son.
