Nigerian artiste Runtown’s story is a testament to the highs and lows of the music industry. With hits like “Mad Over You,” Runtown rose to fame, becoming the first Afrobeat artist to debut on the Billboard chart. However, his success was short-lived due to a tumultuous relationship with his record label, Eric Mani Entertainment, owned by Okudili Omenyora.
Runtown’s troubles began when he signed a contract with Eric Mani Entertainment, which initially seemed promising. However, things took a turn for the worse when Omenyora demanded Runtown mention his name in all his songs, a request Runtown refused. This led to a series of threats, intimidation, and lawsuits.

The label boss allegedly pointed a gun at Runtown, and the artist was not paid royalties from his hit song “Mad Over You.” Runtown tried to release new music, but the label’s actions hindered his progress. Despite previous issues, Runtown signed a new contract, which turned out to be a trap.
After winning a lawsuit against the label, Runtown launched his own record label. Although he’s still making music, his career hasn’t reached the same heights as before. Runtown’s story highlights the importance of carefully considering record deals and the potential consequences of working with unscrupulous industry players.
