Oasis kick off their comeback: The best they’ve been since the 90s

Oasis brushed off years of silence and silenced skeptics as they launched their much-anticipated comeback tour in Cardiff.

Returning to the stage after a 16-year absence, the band sounded energized and fierce, diving into fan-favorite hits like Cigarettes and Alcohol, Live Forever, and Slide Away—with 70,000 fans singing arm-in-arm and spilling beer everywhere.

They opened with Hello, featuring the lyric “it’s good to be back,” then transitioned into Acquiesce—a rare track showcasing both [1] and [2] Gallagher’s vocals.

The line “we need each other” felt like a moment of healing—a sigh of unity—as the famously feuding brothers seemingly found common ground again.

[2], in particular, delivered a wild and fierce performance—strutting across the stage and tearing through the lyrics like a predator with prey.

The crowd matched his energy. A powerful wave of emotion carried songs like Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back In Anger, lifted from their 1995 classic (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?—one of the UK’s all-time best-selling albums.

It was a night of one anthem after another: Some Might Say, Supersonic, Whatever, Half the World Away, Rock ‘n’ Roll Star.

Oasis was never known for elaborate stage performances. [1] often stood focused, looking like he was solving a math problem—but somehow, you couldn’t look away.

Although they arrived on stage hand-in-hand, the brothers showed little personal interaction throughout the 2.25-hour set.

Still, hearing them harmonize again—despite all the years and drama—was deeply moving.

“Thanks for sticking with us,” said [2] as he introduced the final track, Champagne Supernova. “We’re a lot to handle, I know.”

As they exited, the brothers shared a brief hug.

But their chaos has always been part of the appeal.

Off-stage, their antics were as infamous as their music: skipping a European tour after a ferry arrest, [2] losing teeth in a scuffle with police in Germany, or walking out on an American tour to go house hunting.

Half the fun was never knowing what scandal would happen next.

Still, [2]’s unpredictable nature often wore down [1].

“[1] is the guy chained to the Tasmanian devil,” [3] from Mojo magazine once said. “That would exhaust anyone.”

Their final split came in 2009 during a Paris concert, where an argument turned violent—ending with [2] allegedly hurling a plum at [1].

In the years that followed, the feud went public.

[2] repeatedly called [1] a “massive potato” online, and more controversially, accused him of skipping the One Love Manchester tribute concert.

[1] fired back, calling [2] a “village idiot” in need of therapy.

Then came a shift. In 2024, [2] dedicated Half The World Away to [1] at the Reading Festival.

Two days later, the reunion was confirmed: “The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over.”

Ticket demand exploded—over 10 million people vied for 19 UK shows.

Those lucky enough to grab tickets were shocked by soaring resale prices—tickets originally priced at £155 were re-listed at £355 on [4].

On stage, [2] joked: “Is it worth the £4,000 you spent?”

For most, the answer was yes. Fans had traveled from Peru, Argentina, Japan, Spain, and South Korea.

An Italian couple wore wedding rings engraved with “live forever.” A pregnant woman in the crowd had written “[2]”’s nickname across her belly.

The streets were full of bucket hats and track jackets. Outside the venue, even a busker playing Oasis songs drew massive singalongs.

Inside, the band stuck to the classics. Only once did they dip into the post-90s catalog with 2002’s Little By Little.

And the songs? They’ve aged beautifully.

Tracks like Live Forever and Supersonic were alive with urgency. Cigarettes and Alcohol, written in 1991 about disillusioned youth in Thatcher-era Britain, still feels eerily relevant in 2025.

“Is it worth the stress to find a job, when there’s nothing worth working for?” snarled [2]. Fans of all ages shouted back the lyrics.

During Wonderwall, he cheekily changed the line to: “There are many things that I would like to say to you… but I don’t speak Welsh.”

Oasis kick off their comeback: The best they've been since the 90s
Oasis reunites in Cardiff after 16 years, delivering a powerful nostalgia-filled performance to 70,000 fans.

I’ve seen Oasis many times. But this—this was their finest show since 1995, when I watched them open for [5] at Slane Castle, just before they dropped Morning Glory.

Back then, they upstaged the headliners with swagger, and nearly derailed the set when [2] threatened a fan.

They may have lost the danger, but in 2025, Oasis found something else—hunger, fire, and unity.

Some fans and press are already questioning whether the reunion will last—but in Cardiff, one thing was clear: the Gallaghers are back, and mad fer it.
