Ministry hails artist’s patriotic gesture as key to record-breaking football event success
Accra, Ghana – The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has revealed that dancehall star Shatta Wale delivered a pro bono performance at the 2025 President’s Cup, held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, 6 July. According to the Ministry’s official statement, the artist not only waived his fee but also personally funded the entire production of his performance, including dancers, costumes, rehearsals, and stage setup.
“Shatta Wale delivered the performance pro bono in honour of the President and the Ghanaian people,” the Ministry confirmed.
In a post on social media, Shatta Wale also confirmed the arrangement, writing:
“Let’s bring the love of football back and Shaxi fully sponsored my performance.”
A Milestone for Ghanaian Football

The 2025 President’s Cup has been widely hailed as a turning point for domestic football, with the Accra Sports Stadium filled to capacity in a celebratory blend of sport and entertainment. The event has sparked public praise, especially for Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams, who has now overseen two full-house national matches — this and Ghana’s 5–0 win over Chad in March.
“This is a clear demonstration of his conviction that sports, when marketed strategically, can be self-sustaining,” the Ministry said.
The Sports Ministry credited the event’s success to strategic partnerships, a strong media campaign, and a fuse of regional rivalries, notably between Ashanti and Greater Accra Regions, which energized supporters’ groups under a unified umbrella.
No Public Funds Spent
A key highlight of the 2025 edition was its zero reliance on public funds. A fundraising committee led by Dr. Tony Aubynn and media executive Bola Ray mobilized resources from the public and private sectors, with Minister Kofi Adams himself spearheading sponsorship outreach.
Supporting musical acts Kwaku Smoke, Bogo Blay, and Camidoh further enhanced the entertainment appeal, while the stage setup was tactically placed behind the goalposts to prevent damage to the pitch.
Infrastructure and Public Confidence
The Ministry also emphasized that the recent success reflects growing public trust and renewed belief in the potential of Ghanaian sports. A task force now oversees pitch maintenance, and key upgrades have been implemented to meet CAF and FIFA standards.
“The success of the President’s Cup, coupled with previous wins, shows that with innovative thinking and stakeholder collaboration, Ghana can reshape the future of its sports sector,” the statement concluded.
