Comedian says act of kindness in traffic turned into his “biggest free bono money ever”
Accra, Ghana – Ghanaian actor and comedian Kalybos has shared a heartwarming story of how a spontaneous act of humility led to an unexpected reward: a GH₵100,000 cheque from a grateful father.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with arts and culture journalist Kwame Dadzie, the entertainer, known in real life as Richard Asante, recounted how he stepped out of his car during heavy traffic in Osu back in 2016 to take photos with a group of children.
“They saw me and were so excited. Their dad said they couldn’t take pictures because of the traffic, so I got out of my car and joined them in theirs for the photos,” Kalybos explained.

According to him, the children’s father was deeply moved by the gesture — especially after previously witnessing his kids being ignored by a popular actress during a similar request at a mall.
The man took Kalybos’ number and later invited him to his office. After a brief conversation, he handed the actor an envelope.
“I opened it and it was a cheque. GH₵100,000! The biggest ‘free bono money’ I’ve ever had in my life,” Kalybos said, adding that he used the money to buy his second car.
From Skits to Stardom
Kalybos rose to fame through the popular comedy skit series “Boys Kasa,” starring alongside actress Ahoufe Patri. Since then, he has featured in hit films such as Kalybos in China, Amakye and Dede, and John and John.
Today, he is recognized as one of Ghana’s most influential comedic actors, also lending his talent to major brand campaigns and events.
