Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel won his third straight world title, while Switzerland’s Marlen Reusser claimed her first gold as Kigali hosted a historic UCI Cycling World Championships.
Rwanda hosts historic UCI Road World Championships as Africa records its largest-ever participation.
The UCI Road World Championships officially kicked off in Kigali, Rwanda, under the theme “Riding New Heights.”
The event drew over 1,000 attendees, including elite cyclists, national federation delegates, cycling officials, and dignitaries from across the globe.
With 106 countries competing, including a record 35 African nations, the tournament is being hailed as a milestone for the continent’s cycling growth.
Evenepoel Secures Third ITT Title
Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel reaffirmed his dominance in the Men’s Individual Time Trial (ITT), winning his third consecutive world title.
He completed the 40.6 km course in 49 minutes and 6 seconds, adding to his earlier victories in Glasgow (2023) and Zurich (2024).
“Both the training and the race went well,” Evenepoel said. “I came here with an open mindset and ready for every situation.”
Australian cyclist Jay Vine, who finished third, praised his support team:
“We’ve got a whole team behind us getting straight in this race. We’ll celebrate with the team and do a long ride tomorrow.”
Reusser Finally Claims Gold
In the Women’s Elite ITT, Switzerland’s Marlen Reusser finally achieved her long-awaited breakthrough.
