Glamour meets legal drama as South Africa’s businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize’s luxury assets spark fierce bidding frenzy.
Glamour, desire and audacity have taken center stage at the Bapsfontein Yard-disposal of distressed goods, where the auction of Durban businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize’s designer handbags and luxury car has drawn massive attention. With only hours left before the auction closes, bids for her prized Lamborghini Urus and luxury handbag collection have already soared past R4.4 million, turning the event into a spectacle of wealth and intrigue.
According to Pieter Geldenhuys, managing director of Bidders Choice Auction House, the response has been overwhelming. “From the moment the auction opened, the bids flew in. Usually, we see heavy activity at the end of auctions, but with these lots, interest was immediate and intense,” he said.
Luxury Under the Hammer
The auction features an impressive lineup of MaMkhize’s luxury items from iconic Louis Vuitton cases to rare Gucci and Balenciaga pieces, and even a 2021 Lamborghini Urus, one of the most coveted SUVs in the world.
The auction comes in the wake of a legal battle with the South African Revenue Service (SARS), which seized her luxury assets over unpaid taxes amounting to R40 million. SARS had also placed her soccer club, Royal AM, under curatorship before its eventual expulsion from the Premier Soccer League (PSL) a blow to both MaMkhize’s business empire and her image as one of South Africa’s most glamorous entrepreneurs.
Bids Reach New Heights
By 10 a.m., bidding figures had reached jaw-dropping levels:
Lamborghini Urus 2021 (runner) – R4.3 million, expected to climb to R4.7 million after commission fees. Comparable models can fetch up to R8 million on the market.
Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Case – R20,500, with bidding still active.
Two Louis Vuitton Zephyr Suitcases – Approaching R46,000 combined.

Gucci Floral Ophidia Handbag – R11,000, retailing around R19,000 in stores.
Saint Laurent Care Maxi Shopping Handbag with Pouch– R29,000 and rising.
Goyard Red Villette French Bulldog Tote– R14,000 an understated yet instantly recognizable collector’s item.
The auction is projected to fetch between R4.5 million and R5 million in total, which will contribute toward settling MaMkhize’s outstanding tax debt.
From Rumors to Reality

For years, street gossip claimed that many of MaMkhize’s designer handbags were fake. The auction has put those rumors to rest. Each item has been independently authenticated and verified by experts in Sandton.
Geldenhuys noted that the authentication process was rigorous. “We went through each and every handbag and suitcase, checking for hidden serial numbers. My team had to be trained to identify them properly before sending everything for professional verification,” he explained.
The Glamour Behind the Gavel
The auction has attracted a diverse crowd from collectors to first-time bidders, and even spouses acting on behalf of “their bosses,” as Geldenhuys jokingly described them. “We’ve had buyers coming from all over the country Rustenburg, Bloemfontein, Johannesburg. These aren’t just curious visitors; these are serious bidders who know exactly what they want,” he added.
Beyond the allure of luxury, many bidders are drawn to the symbolism of owning a piece of MaMkhize’s legend the story of a woman who rose from humble beginnings to become one of South Africa’s most talked-about entrepreneurs, before finding herself in a headline-grabbing tax battle.
A Tale of Glamour and Grit
MaMkhize’s journey has always been as dramatic as it is inspiring. Known for her extravagant lifestyle and unapologetic confidence she has become a symbol of ambition, controversy, and resilience in South Africa’s entertainment and business landscape.
While critics call her lavish spending excessive, her fans see her as a woman who lives boldly and refuses to be silenced. As the auction nears its close, her name continues to dominate headlines once again proving that everything MaMkhize touches draws attention.
