Presidential hopeful vows to focus on economic recovery, social justice, and opportunities for young people
Jean-Louis Billon, a presidential candidate in Côte d’Ivoire, took his campaign to Abobo, a working-class neighborhood in Abidjan, on Saturday. Addressing an enthusiastic crowd, the candidate of the Democratic Congress (CODE) coalition shared a message centered on economic recovery, social justice, and youth empowerment.
The rally was a direct appeal to the country’s young population, signaling Billon’s intention to make them a cornerstone of his political platform.
Youth as Agents of Change

Supporters expressed confidence in Billon’s ability to represent a new generation of leadership. “He is a young candidate, the candidate of renewal,” said supporter Eric Okoi.
He highlighted three reasons why young Ivorians should back Billon: his youthful energy, his inclusive social policies for youth and women, and his promise of transformation. “With him, there is hope for the transformation of Ivorian society,” Okoi added.
Women at the Heart of Development
Billon’s message also resonated with women. Supporter Fabyra Koffi praised the candidate for positioning women as a pillar of national development.
“That is what motivated and encouraged me to support him, accompany him, and work in his team,” she said. “I urge everyone to choose this candidate because he has the right CV for our generation.”
Challenging the Stronghold
The Abobo neighborhood has long been considered a stronghold of incumbent President Alassane Ouattara and the Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP).
Billon’s team said holding the rally there was a deliberate choice to show that he understands local realities and intends to put purchasing power and economic fairness at the center of his campaign.

A Call for Political Renewal
Billon told the crowd that young people must aspire to a renewal of the Ivorian political class and assured them he is ready to lead this change. His remarks were met with loud applause from supporters eager for a new direction.
President Ouattara, who is 83 years old, is seeking a fourth term in the Ivorian presidential election scheduled for 25 October 2025. Billon’s campaign is positioning itself as a youthful alternative to the political establishment.
