British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua has reportedly relocated to Dubai, joining a growing number of wealthy individuals leaving the United Kingdom.

Corporate filings reportedly list the two-time heavyweight champion as a resident of Dubai, a city known for its favourable tax environment.

Tax benefits attract wealthy residents

Unlike the UK, United Arab Emirates does not charge personal income tax, making Dubai an attractive destination for high-net-worth individuals seeking to reduce their tax obligations.

Joshua’s business ventures are estimated to be worth around $160 million, which could result in a significant tax bill under the UK’s tax system.

Growing “millionaire exodus”

Economic analysts have warned of a growing trend of wealthy residents leaving the UK. The Office for Budget Responsibility estimates that up to 50,000 people each year could relocate abroad.

Meanwhile, data from the Office for National Statistics shows that about 257,000 British nationals left the UK in the year ending December 2024.

Boxing career and background

Joshua is a two-time world heavyweight boxing champion and one of Britain’s most recognisable sports figures.

Born in the UK to Nigerian parents, he also holds Nigerian citizenship and has often spoken about his connection to Nigeria.
