Spanish authorities have uncovered a highly advanced drug-smuggling tunnel beneath the border enclave of Ceuta, exposing a complex underground operation used to move illegal substances into Europe.

The tunnel, discovered by Spanish Police, was built deep below an industrial warehouse and equipped with rails, wagons, and transport systems designed to move large quantities of drugs with efficiency.

Highly Engineered Operation

Investigators say the tunnel stretched dozens of meters and had likely been in use for years, quietly transporting significant volumes of cannabis across the border with Morocco.

The level of engineering suggests the operation was carefully planned and heavily resourced, rather than a makeshift smuggling route.

 Major Police Operation

The discovery led to a large-scale crackdown involving hundreds of officers, resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of large amounts of drugs.

Authorities believe the tunnel was part of a broader network of organised crime groups operating across the region.

Wider Investigation Underway

Officials suspect there could be additional tunnels in the area, raising concerns about how criminal networks are exploiting underground routes to bypass strict border controls.

The case has now triggered a deeper investigation into the scale and sophistication of smuggling operations beneath one of Europe’s most heavily monitored borders.
