An amateur rapper has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after his banned XL bully dog fatally attacked his mother-in-law in Essex.

Ashley Warren was found responsible for owning one of the dogs involved in the fatal attack on Esther Martin in February 2024.

 Fatal Attack

The dog, named Bear, carried out what the court described as a prolonged and violent attack lasting at least 12 minutes. The incident occurred at Warren’s home, just days after XL bully dogs were officially banned in the United Kingdom.

Court Ruling

The judge labelled the attack as “sustained and repeated” and handed Warren a 10-year prison sentence. He was also given a lifetime ban from owning dogs.

This case marks the first conviction under new laws introduced in February 2024 targeting the ownership of XL bully dogs.

 Family Impact

During the hearing, Martin’s daughter described her mother as the heart of the family, saying her loss has left an irreplaceable void.

Legal Significance

The case highlights the serious consequences of failing to comply with new regulations surrounding dangerous dog breeds, as authorities continue to enforce stricter controls.
