One dead, 27 injured after bus carrying British tourists crashes in Canary Island
At least one person has died and 27 others have been injured after a bus carrying British tourists crashed on the island of La Gomera in Spain’s Canary Islands.
Local authorities confirmed that the person who died was a male passenger. Emergency services responded to the scene, where the bus reportedly came off the road and plunged into a ravine.
According to officials, there were 28 people on board at the time of the crash — 27 British tourists and the driver. All passengers required medical attention following the incident.
Of the injured, three are said to be in serious condition. Most of the victims were taken to Hospital Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe for treatment, while one person was transferred to Tenerife for more specialised care.
The group had been travelling to take part in a boat tour when the crash occurred. Images from the scene show the bus down a steep ravine, highlighting the severity of the accident.
Emergency crews, including paramedics and rescue teams, worked to evacuate the injured and secure the crash site. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the incident, and an investigation is now underway.
The Canary Islands are a popular destination for British holidaymakers, and incidents involving tourist transport often raise concerns about road safety in mountainous areas like La Gomera, known for its steep and winding routes.
Officials are continuing to monitor the condition of those injured, while efforts are being made to notify families of those involved.
