Senior RSF Commander Defects to Sudan Army in Major Blow to Paramilitary Forces
Sudan’s ongoing conflict has taken a significant turn as a senior commander from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) defected to the national army, marking one of the most high-profile shifts since the war began.
Major General al-Nour Adam, widely known as “Qubba”, abandoned the paramilitary group to join Sudan’s armed forces, raising questions about internal divisions within the RSF.
He was formally received by army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan in the country’s Northern Province near the Egyptian border. Burhan welcomed the move and stated that the military remains open to others willing to defect and support efforts to rebuild the nation.
Footage released by Sudan’s ruling authorities showed Adam alongside a group of soldiers who also switched allegiance, highlighting the potential scale of the defection.
The development comes amid Sudan’s deepening humanitarian crisis, with millions displaced and widespread famine reported as fighting continues across the country.
Analysts say the defection could signal growing fractures within the RSF as the war enters its fourth year, potentially altering the balance on the battlefield.
