Fresh controversy has emerged following the death of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, as members of his family have publicly accused his stepmother of withholding crucial information about his declining health before he passed away.
The actor died on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40 after privately battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer. His death shocked fans and colleagues across the entertainment industry, many of whom were unaware he had been seriously ill.
In an emotional statement shared on social media, David Ekubo, a cousin of the late actor, alleged that the family was not properly informed about Alexx’s worsening condition. According to him, the actor’s only biological sister was never told the full extent of his illness before his death.
David claimed the family only learned the seriousness of Alexx’s medical condition after it had significantly deteriorated. He further alleged that his stepmother failed to notify close relatives despite the actor’s health steadily declining during his final months.
The family says several unanswered questions remain surrounding the events leading up to the actor’s passing. They believe the lack of communication prevented some family members from being with Alexx during his final moments.
The allegations have sparked widespread discussion online, with many fans expressing surprise after discovering that the woman Alexx frequently referred to as his mother on social media was, in fact, his stepmother.
The dispute comes shortly after the actor was laid to rest in Arochukwu, Abia State. While tributes continue to pour in celebrating his contributions to Nollywood, the family disagreement has cast a shadow over the period of mourning.
So far, the stepmother has not publicly responded to the allegations made against her. The claims remain unverified, and no independent evidence has been presented to support the accusations.
Alexx Ekubo was widely admired for his performances in numerous Nollywood productions and was regarded as one of Nigeria’s most recognizable actors. His passing continues to be mourned by fans, friends and colleagues, who have remembered him for his talent, charisma and impact on the Nigerian film industry.
