Russian Strikes on Kyiv Kill at Least 10 Ahead of NATO Summit

At least 10 people have been killed and 46 others injured, including five children, after Russia launched another wave of missile strikes on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, marking the second major attack on the city within a week.

According to Kyiv’s military administration chief, Timur Tkachenko, rescue operations are continuing at more than 20 locations where residential buildings and other infrastructure were damaged. Emergency crews are searching through the rubble for survivors as authorities assess the full extent of the destruction.

The attacks struck several districts of Kyiv, with residential high-rise buildings among the hardest hit. Vitali Klitschko said Russian ballistic missiles ignited fires in apartment complexes, while warehouses and a vehicle repair workshop were also damaged.

Images from the Ukrainian capital show burned-out vehicles, collapsed buildings and emergency responders working through the debris following the overnight bombardment.

The latest assault comes just days after another large-scale Russian attack on Kyiv that killed at least 30 people. Ukrainian officials have accused Moscow of deliberately targeting civilian areas, while Russia maintains its strikes are aimed at military and energy infrastructure in response to Ukrainian attacks inside Russian territory.

Hours before the latest bombardment, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that intelligence reports suggested Russia was preparing another major assault on the capital.

The renewed attacks also come on the eve of the NATO summit in Turkey, where Zelensky is expected to hold talks with US President Donald Trump and other allied leaders about continued military support for Ukraine.

Ahead of the summit, Zelensky renewed his appeal for additional long-range missiles and stronger air defence systems, arguing that delays in military assistance only encourage further Russian attacks and result in more civilian casualties.

The Ukrainian leader also called on the United States to grant Ukraine licences to manufacture Patriot air defence missiles domestically, saying the move would strengthen the country’s ability to defend itself against continued aerial assaults.

Meanwhile, overnight attacks also affected Russian-occupied Crimea, where power was temporarily disrupted in Sevastopol following reported strikes.

As rescue efforts continue in Kyiv, international attention is expected to focus on the NATO summit, where Ukraine’s defence needs and the ongoing war with Russia are set to dominate discussions among allied leaders.
