Connie Chiume’s Daughter Launches Support Campaign to Pursue Los Angeles Entertainment Dream
Nothando Mabuza-Chiume seeks public support as she returns to build an international creative career
Nearly two years after the passing of legendary South African actress Connie Chiume, her daughter Nothando Mabuza-Chiume is seeking support as she prepares for a new chapter in her entertainment journey.
The actress, producer and creative recently launched a fundraising campaign titled “Road to Los Angeles”, sharing her plans to return to the United States to continue developing her skills and pursuing opportunities in the global entertainment industry.
A personal journey of healing and growth
In an emotional message shared on Instagram, Mabuza-Chiume revealed that asking for financial assistance was not an easy decision.
She explained that while many people may believe she is doing well, she has privately been dealing with grief, pressure and the challenge of rebuilding her life after losing her mother.
She said she eventually realised that sometimes moving forward requires allowing others to support you.
Mabuza-Chiume described her decision as more than just a career move, saying the journey represents healing, personal growth and choosing a new direction for her future.
Los Angeles experience inspired her return
The actress said a recent visit to Los Angeles changed her perspective and gave her a renewed sense of purpose.
During the trip, she said she felt a strong connection to the city and realised it was where she wanted to continue her creative development.
She plans to return to Los Angeles in October, where she will study scriptwriting and acting while completing her qualification and working towards earning an associate’s degree.
For her, the move is not only about education but also about creating a new foundation for her life and career.
Building her own legacy in entertainment
Although she is widely recognised as the daughter of the late Connie Chiume, Nothando Mabuza-Chiume has spent more than two decades creating her own identity in the entertainment industry.
She has worked as an actress, producer, director and creative across film, television and theatre.
Her artistic journey also includes music, with her social media platforms showcasing different aspects of her creativity.
Through her work, she has developed a reputation as a multi-talented storyteller who continues to explore different forms of expression.
Supporting young creatives
Beyond her own career, Mabuza-Chiume has dedicated time to supporting and mentoring emerging talent.
She has worked as a director at Oakfields College and has been involved with the Connie Chiume Foundation, an organisation focused on empowering young creatives.
She has also directed several stage productions, including “Katlego”, “RainSong”, “WORDS”, “LOST” and “Terminal”.
Her work reflects a passion for developing new voices in the arts and creating opportunities for the next generation of performers.
A new chapter ahead
As she prepares for her return to Los Angeles, Mabuza-Chiume hopes supporters will help her achieve her goal.
She encouraged those who believe in her journey to contribute or share her campaign with others.
For the daughter of one of South Africa’s most celebrated actresses, the move represents more than a career ambition — it is an opportunity to continue building her own legacy while honouring the creative spirit she inherited.
