US President criticises England’s tactics as debate continues over Tuchel’s decisions in Argentina loss
United States President Donald Trump has joined the growing criticism surrounding England’s tactics after their dramatic World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina, questioning why captain Harry Kane was used in a more defensive role during the closing stages of the match.

“You have a great player in England who I’ve played golf with. And he is Harry [Kane] who has been fantastic,” Trump said.
“I think they perhaps made a mistake when they made him a defensive player. They took their best player and put him on defence.”

Tuchel later dismissed the comments when asked about Trump’s criticism, choosing not to engage in the debate surrounding his tactical decisions.
The US president also spoke about another World Cup controversy involving American striker Folarin Balogun, whose suspension was overturned after Trump said he contacted Fifa president Gianni Infantino about the decision.
Balogun had originally faced a one-match suspension after receiving a red card during the tournament, but Fifa later suspended the ban, allowing him to continue playing.
Trump praised the decision and thanked Infantino, saying the tournament had been one of the biggest sporting events in history.
