Russian Missile Strike on Kyiv Drone Exhibition Kills 10 as Ukraine War Escalates

Deadly Attack Targets Technology Event Near Ukrainian Capital

At least 15 people have been killed in Russian attacks across Ukraine, including 10 deaths caused by ballistic missile strikes on a drone technology exhibition near Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said around 100 people were injured in the daytime attack, which struck an event attended by members of Ukraine’s defence and technology sectors.

The exhibition was focused on drone technology, an increasingly important part of the war between Russia and Ukraine. The attack has raised concerns about security measures surrounding public defence-related events during the ongoing conflict.

Ukraine Investigates Exhibition Security After Strike

Following the attack, Ukrainian authorities launched an investigation into how the event was organised and whether adequate safety measures were in place.

Ukraine’s prosecutor-general said officials were working to determine who approved the exhibition and what security preparations had been made before the missile strike.

There were initial concerns about the safety of defence adviser Serhiy Beskrestnov, also known as Flash, and technology developer Lyuba Shypovych, who has contributed to Ukraine’s military drone development.

Both later confirmed they were safe. Beskrestnov said he decided not to attend the event because of security concerns.

Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yuri Ihnat said the attack involved three ballistic missiles, with only one intercepted.

Russia Confirms Strike and Gives Different Account

Russia confirmed carrying out the attack but said it targeted a military-related location.

The Russian Defence Ministry claimed it used high-precision long-range weapons against a site where drones designed for attacks inside Russia were being demonstrated.

Moscow said drone manufacturers, representatives of Ukraine’s drone forces and security officials involved in planning operations against Russia were present at the event.

The strike marks at least the third time since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022 that an exhibition connected to drone technology has been attacked.

The incident has sparked criticism over why such a public event was held and reportedly promoted widely despite the ongoing war.

More Deadly Attacks Across Ukraine and Russia

Elsewhere in Ukraine, five people were killed in the eastern city of Sloviansk after Russian glide bomb attacks.

Zelensky also warned that Ukrainian intelligence had information suggesting Russia could launch another major missile attack soon.

Meanwhile, Ukraine carried out strikes inside Russia, with an overnight attack killing six people and injuring 26 in the city of Kirov, located more than 1,000 kilometres from the front line.

Ukraine said it also targeted warehouses belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer.

President Zelensky said a major facility in Kirov involved in producing components for aircraft and missile systems used against Ukraine was hit.

Ukraine Expands Drone and Infrastructure Campaign

Kyiv has increasingly targeted Russian logistics and industrial sites as part of its effort to disrupt supplies supporting Moscow’s military operations.

Ukrainian officials said attacks on Wildberries facilities were linked to concerns that logistics networks could support military supply chains.

The strikes have affected businesses operating through the retailer, including many small and medium-sized companies.

Diplomatic Efforts Continue Amid Fighting

Despite the ongoing attacks, diplomatic efforts continue.

Zelensky is expected to travel to the United States and meet President Donald Trump as Washington attempts to encourage renewed peace discussions between Ukraine and Russia.

Meanwhile, Romania reported that one of its F-16 fighter jets shot down a Russian drone after it entered Romanian airspace. Authorities had earlier issued alerts in several eastern and southeastern regions.

As missile strikes, drone warfare and diplomatic efforts continue, the conflict shows no signs of slowing, with both sides maintaining pressure on military and strategic targets.
