Heavyweight Star Wins Comeback Fight Ahead of Possible Blockbuster Clash
Tyson Fury has taken another step toward a highly anticipated showdown with Anthony Joshua after defeating Polish heavyweight Mariusz Wach in a low-profile bout in Thailand.
The 37-year-old former world champion dominated the fight at the Max Muay Thai Stadium in Pattaya before Wach retired on his stool at the start of the eighth round.
The victory marked the 36th win of Fury’s professional career and helped keep plans for a potential all-British heavyweight clash with Joshua on course.
Fury Completes Test Before Joshua’s Return
Fury controlled the fight from the opening rounds, using his size and experience to overwhelm the 46-year-old Wach.
Although the event attracted only around 1,500 fans and lacked the huge atmosphere usually associated with Fury’s biggest fights, the result gave him the victory he wanted.
After the fight, Fury turned his attention toward Joshua, who is preparing for his own comeback bout against Albanian fighter Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia.
“I went through my test tonight. Let’s see if he can get through his,” Fury said.
Many expected Fury to travel directly to Saudi Arabia to watch Joshua’s fight and potentially announce their long-awaited showdown if Joshua secured victory.
Instead, Fury said he planned to return home to spend time with his family.
Future Fight Location Still Unclear
Fury said he hopes negotiations for the Joshua fight will move forward soon, but the location remains undecided.
Promoter Eddie Hearn has suggested Joshua’s contract points toward a fight in the United Kingdom, while reports have also mentioned possible venues in the United States.
Fury said the fight could happen anywhere, naming locations such as Las Vegas, New York, Ireland or London.
The matchup between the two British heavyweight stars has been discussed for years but has repeatedly failed to materialize.
Unusual Fight Experience in Thailand
Unlike Fury’s previous stadium events, the bout against Wach was not broadcast live on television or radio.
Instead, the fight will reportedly feature as part of the third season of Netflix’s reality series “At Home With The Furys.”
The unusual setup highlighted the changing landscape of boxing, where fighters increasingly focus on streaming platforms, documentaries and behind-the-scenes content.
The event had a more traditional feel, with regular Muay Thai fights taking place before the venue was transformed for Fury’s boxing contest.
Fury joked about the unusual occasion, saying fans had witnessed the “punch-up in Pattaya” after famous boxing events such as the “Thrilla in Manila.”

A possible Fury versus Joshua fight is expected to become another major event for Netflix, which has expanded its presence in boxing and combat sports.
