Ghana Turns Fashion Into Tourism Opportunity

Ghana is looking to boost its global tourism appeal through fashion, culture and business.
The country’s first Black Star Fashion Week (BSFW) set by the Black Star Experience Secretariat at the Office of the President will see fashion professionals, investors and cultural practitioners come together in November 2026.

Scheduled for 4 and 7 November, the event will include an industry summit in Accra and a fashion showcase at Royal Senchi.
The event offers the opportunity to align Ghana’s fashion industry with tourism, destination marketing and international business development.

The Black Star Fashion Summit will be held in Accra on 4 November and will bring together designers, entrepreneurs, investors, manufacturers, policymakers, buyers and media professionals. The summit will discuss fashion entrepreneurship, branding, digital marketing, textile innovation, manufacturing, fashion finance, export readiness, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, sustainability and intellectual property.

A 16-Region Designer Programme will also see emerging designers come together to interpret their regions through local identity, heritage, materials and craftsmanship.

Five designers will be chosen, one of whom will go on to the flagship fashion showcase at Royal Senchi on 7 November.
The showcase will bring fashion together with a wider cultural experience – a planned Fashion Village will feature designer displays, retail, textiles, artisan experiences, beauty, technology, food, tourism and lifestyle activities.

Music, dance, storytelling, heritage and visual arts will also be part of the programme.
The event will see industry recognition and networking opportunities that connect designers and creative businesses with potential buyers, investors, manufacturers and retailers.

Black Star Fashion Week will join an existing calendar of Ghanaian fashion events in November.
Glitz Africa Fashion Week is set for 10 to 13 November in Accra, with its 2026 theme focusing on sustainability and Africa’s fashion future.

Rhythms on Da Runway returns for 28 November under the theme of “UNBOUND”, highlighting wider representation in fashion. Accra Fashion Week also provides a platform for Ghanaian and other African designers, models, buyers and international fashion enthusiasts.

The events offer the opportunity to build a more cohesive fashion tourism strategy rather than standalone attractions.
The Black Star Experience Secretariat, Ghana Tourism Authority, Creative Arts Agency and event organisers could work together on fashion-themed itineraries, designer studio visits, textile trails, shopping experiences and cultural excursions.
Partnerships with hotels, airlines and tour operators could encourage visitors to attend multiple events and extend their stays.

Measuring international visitor numbers, length of stay, expenditure, media reach, retail sales and business opportunities would help to understand the contribution of the sector to tourism. The ambition is to position Ghanaian fashion as a gateway to the country’s cultural diversity, creative industries and regional attractions.
