Andile Mpisane Denies Being an Absent Father
South African musician and Royal AM chairman Andile Mpisane says he continues to support his children financially and remains committed to their welfare amid social media discussions about his parenting.
Mpisane responds to criticism
Mpisane issued a statement on social media insisting that his responsibilities as a father should not be judged based on speculation or one-sided accounts.
He said he had continued contributing to his children’s education, including paying their school fees, and remained committed to their well-being and future.
Shozi’s comment sparks discussion
The controversy follows a comment by Sithelo Shozi, the mother of Mpisane’s two children, on a TikTok post linked to the “Akawondli challenge”. The trend features women sharing claims that their children’s fathers fail to provide support.
Shozi did not name Mpisane in her comment but wrote, “6 years and counting.”
Responding to a user who expressed sympathy, Shozi said raising her daughters was something she loved and described caring for them as her ministry. She also criticised people who, in her view, presented themselves differently from how they behaved privately.
Mpisane says access was restricted
Mpisane acknowledged that his access to his children had been limited in the past but said he had recently had an opportunity to reconnect with them.
He explained that he had deliberately kept the family situation private to protect his children from public disputes and allow them to grow up without unnecessary attention.
Musician urges public to consider facts
Mpisane rejected suggestions that his silence meant he was not fulfilling his responsibilities, insisting that his love and commitment should not be questioned based on assumptions.
He said his priority remained building a meaningful relationship with his children and supporting their overall welfare. He urged the public to assess his role as a father based on his actions and verified facts rather than speculation.
