Chelsea Captain James Out for Three Months
Chelsea captain Reece James is expected to miss around three months after undergoing knee surgery, dealing another blow to the club ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.
James begins rehabilitation
The 26-year-old defender suffered the injury during training before Chelsea’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth last weekend. The club subsequently decided that surgery was necessary.
James is now undergoing rehabilitation with Chelsea’s medical team. The club has not provided an official return date, leaving uncertainty over when the captain will be available again.
Chelsea face demanding fixtures
Chelsea travel to Everton next in the Premier League before hosting London rivals Tottenham and Manchester United. Their busy schedule also includes a Carabao Cup trip to Liverpool between the two home matches.
James’ absence could affect Chelsea during a crucial period as they manage several important domestic fixtures without their captain.
Injury history raises concerns
The England international has struggled with repeated injuries over recent seasons, forcing him to miss several international tournaments since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
His availability improved significantly last season, allowing him to play a prominent role in England’s World Cup campaign, where the team reached the semi-finals before winning the bronze medal match.
James was among the players who withdrew from England duty during the latest international break. England’s next international window begins in early November, when they are scheduled to face Croatia at Wembley Stadium.
