Reform UK Councillor Charged With 35 Offences, Including 12 Counts of Rape
A Reform UK councillor in Hampshire has been charged with 35 offences involving four alleged victims over a 13-year period, including 12 counts of rape.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed that George Madgwick, 37, faces charges relating to alleged offences committed between 2008 and 2021 in Portsmouth and Wales.
The charges include rape, sexual assault, controlling or coercive behaviour and offences involving indecent images of children. The four alleged victims were aged 16 and 17 at the time.
Reform UK confirmed that Madgwick had been suspended from the party with immediate effect. He is scheduled to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on 25 November.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said its investigation began on 24 July 2025 after receiving a report of a sexual offence. Madgwick was first arrested on 6 January 2026 before being charged by the CPS on Tuesday.
The 37-year-old, who lives in the Anchorage Park area of Portsmouth, faces 12 counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration and two counts of sexual assault.
He has also been charged with two counts of making indecent images of children, two counts of controlling or coercive behaviour and eight counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The remaining charges include causing or inciting the sexual exploitation of a child, distributing an indecent image of a child, stalking, making threats to kill, false imprisonment, theft and criminal damage.
A CPS spokesperson said prosecutors had established that there was sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and that prosecution was in the public interest.
The spokesperson also reminded the public that proceedings were active and that Madgwick had the right to a fair trial, warning against reporting or sharing information that could prejudice the case.
Madgwick represents North East Havant on Hampshire County Council and Paulsgrove on Portsmouth City Council.
Last month, he appeared in an ITV News Exposure documentary titled Undercover: A Year In Reform. Following its broadcast, he accused ITV of electoral interference.
The programme featured him expressing support for the Portsmouth Patriots, an anti-immigration group. He later claimed that undercover reporting could have influenced the outcome of council elections.
The charges are allegations, and Madgwick is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
