Former minister Ahoua Don Mello has officially announced his candidacy for Côte d’Ivoire’s upcoming presidential election, intensifying the country’s already charged political atmosphere ahead of the October polls. A close associate of ex-president Laurent Gbagbo, Mello described his move as a “precautionary candidacy” aimed at preventing a leadership void should Gbagbo remain barred from contesting.
Gbagbo’s Legal Struggles and Party Fallout
