Biography of Stonebwoy: Ghana’s Dancehall Icon
Stonebwoy, born Livingstone Etse Satekla on March 5, 1988, is a renowned Ghanaian musician known for his Afropop, Afro-dancehall, and reggae sound. He hails from Alakple-Anloga in the Volta Region but was born in Ashaiman, a suburb of Accra.
Stonebwoy’s music career spans over a decade, with his first album “Grade #1” released in 2012. Some of his notable albums include “Necessary Evil” (2014), “Epistles of Mama” (2017), “Anloga Junction” (2020), “5th Dimension” (2023), and “Up & Running” (2024). His fifth studio album, “5th Dimension,” debuted at No. 8 on Billboard Reggae Albums Charts.

The musician has received numerous awards and nominations for his work. He won the Best International Act: Africa category at the 2015 BET Awards and Artiste of the Year at the 2015 and 2024 Ghana Music Awards. Stonebwoy has also been honored with two Billboard plaques and a Golden Club plaque from Boomplay after surpassing 100 million streams.
As a philanthropist, Stonebwoy founded the Livingstone Foundation, which focuses on education, healthcare, and community advocacy. Through his foundation, he has sponsored students, donated to hospitals, and renovated a basic school. Stonebwoy has also partnered with organizations to raise funds for pediatric clinics.
Some of his notable performances include the Reggae Sumfest, Afro Nation Festival, Rotterdam Reggae Festival, and the Global Citizen Festival. He has performed alongside notable artists such as SZA, Usher, Sarkodie, and Stormzy.
Stonebwoy is married to Dr. Louisa, a dental surgeon, and they have two children together. He has been named brand ambassador for several companies, including Voltic Natural Mineral Water, Tecno Mobile, and Big Boss Energy Drink.
