Court Clears Path for Official Results

Cameroon’s Constitutional Council on Wednesday dismissed all ten petitions challenging the country’s October 12 presidential election, removing the final legal hurdles before the declaration of results. The council’s ruling is final and cannot be appealed, effectively confirming the credibility of the disputed vote process.

Election Petitions Rejected

The petitions, which alleged ballot stuffing, voter intimidation, and other irregularities, were brought by opposition parties and independent candidates. However, the court ruled that none of the complaints were supported by sufficient evidence to warrant further investigation or annulment of results.

Tchiroma Claims Victory

Opposition candidate Issa Tchiroma, one of the election’s key contenders, has refused to concede defeat. Speaking on his official campaign platform on Wednesday, he insisted that he won the election and warned against what he called “attempts to silence the will of the people.”
“If they prefer to threaten the serenity and peace of the country rather than admit defeat, we will respond with the peaceful determination of the people,” Tchiroma declared.

Unofficial Results Favor Biya

Preliminary and unofficial tallies from local observers and media reports indicate that incumbent President Paul Biya is leading the race. The 91-year-old leader, who has been in power since 1982, is seeking another term amid growing calls for generational change and democratic reforms.

Protests Erupt in Northern Cities

Following the court’s ruling, sporadic demonstrations broke out in Garoua  Tchiroma’s hometown in northern Cameroon  and several other cities. Security forces were deployed to maintain order as tensions simmer among supporters demanding transparency in the vote-counting process.

Final Results Expected by Sunday

According to electoral law, the Constitutional Council must proclaim the final presidential results by Sunday. Political analysts say the announcement will likely determine whether Cameroon experiences a peaceful continuation of Biya’s decades-long rule or renewed unrest in the face of Tchiroma’s defiance.
