A tearful Davido honors 16 years of brotherhood with Asa Asika during an emotional wedding tribute.

Nigerian afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, became an emotional highlight at the wedding of his longtime manager and friend, Asa Asika. The wedding, which took place in Lagos on Saturday, was filled with touching moments, but Davido’s heartfelt speech and visible tears captured the essence of their deep brotherhood.

Davido, who served as one of the groomsmen at the traditional ceremony, broke down while delivering a moving tribute to Asa. In a video making the rounds on social media, the singer paused during his speech, overwhelmed by emotion, as he reflected on the long journey he and Asa had taken together — one that led them from obscurity to global recognition.

He revealed that his bond with Asa began over 16 years ago, two years before his rise to fame. Davido credited Asa as one of the very few people in his life who truly understand and can handle him — grouping Asa with his wife, his father, and his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.

“Asa, I love you so much. I have known you for 16 years, two years before I blew, so we blew together. You are one of the few people who can handle me — you, my wife, my dad, and my uncle,” Davido said through tears. The singer’s genuine affection moved many in the audience, reinforcing how strong their friendship has been through the years.

The emotional layers deepened when Davido posted a powerful tribute to Asa on social media. In the message, he expressed how witnessing Asa marry Leona, his bride, left him shattered “in the most beautiful way.” For Davido, the wedding marked not only a celebration of love but also a reminder of a shared history marked by loyalty, resilience, and an unbreakable bond.

“Seeing you stand beside Leona, with peace in your eyes and love in your heart — I couldn’t hold it in. Not just because of the man you’ve become, but because of how you became him,” Davido wrote. “Nothing was handed to us. We built this through fire, through faith, through a bond that never broke.”

Davido went on to emphasize that he and Asa never sought the spotlight but remained committed to their values, their culture, and each other. “We didn’t chase the spotlight. We stayed rooted. Loyal to our story, loyal to our people. We didn’t sell out — we carried the culture, even when it felt heavy. That’s why the blessings never left. Because we never left us behind.”

The singer also acknowledged that Asa has been more than a manager to him. He called him a “shield” and a “brother in every battle,” someone who stayed by his side during his darkest times and remained steadfast even after their collective rise to fame.

“You’ve been more than my manager. You’ve been my shield. My sanity. My brother in every battle. When the lights were off and it got dark, you stayed. And even now, with the world at our feet — you’re still that same solid soul I started with,” Davido added.

The wedding was attended by family, friends, celebrities, and key figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry. Beyond the glitz and glamour, the ceremony also served as a moment of gratitude and reflection for Davido, a reminder that behind the music and success stories are powerful human relationships built on trust and loyalty.

Asa Asika, co-founder of The Plug and Davido’s longtime manager, has played an instrumental role in shaping the afrobeats star’s career. Their partnership is a testament to what’s possible when friendship and business align with shared purpose and vision.
