Ghanaian boy shines in China: Wunnam Alidu-Cotachi ranks 6th in Chinese Bridge Competition
A young Ghanaian student has made the nation proud after an impressive performance at the 2025 Chinese Bridge Competition held in Beijing, China. Wunnam Alidu-Cotachi, a pupil of University of Cape Coast Primary School and a proud son of Yendi (Sankara Yili), showcased his exceptional language skills and cultural talent on the global stage.

The competition, which drew participants from 76 countries, tested contestants’ proficiency in the Chinese language and their ability to promote cultural exchange between China and their respective countries. Wunnam’s journey to the global finals was nothing short of remarkable. He emerged victorious in the local preliminaries in Cape Coast and later won the semi-finals at the University of Cape Coast Confucius Institute, where he also bagged the awards for Best Speech and Talent.
In the global finals, which took place from September 17 to 28, 2025, Wunnam’s impressive performances and interactions with judges earned him a commendable 6th position worldwide. Notably, he was the top-ranked contestant from Africa, a testament to his hard work and dedication.
Wunnam’s achievement is a source of pride for Ghana and a shining example of the country’s potential in language and cultural exchange. His success serves as an inspiration to young Ghanaians to explore new opportunities and push boundaries in their academic and extracurricular pursuits.
