King Mohammed VI Urges Reconciliation with Algeria During Morocco’s Throne Day Address
Omega TV UK– Morocco’s King Mohammed VI marked his 26th Throne Day on Wednesday with a strong call for peace and renewed dialogue with neighbouring Algeria, while celebrating the country’s economic resilience and industrial growth.
The annual national holiday, which commemorates the monarch’s ascension to the throne on July 30, 1999, served as a platform for the King to highlight Morocco’s economic achievements despite ongoing challenges.
Morocco’s Economy Sees Strong Growth Despite Drought and Global Crises
In his national address, King Mohammed VI praised Morocco’s economic progress, stating that the country had managed to sustain steady growth over recent years—even amid international crises and consecutive droughts.
“Morocco is witnessing an unprecedented industrial boom,” the monarch noted. “Industrial exports have more than doubled since 2014, particularly in sectors tied to global industries.”
Renewed Appeal for Dialogue with Algeria

Turning to regional diplomacy, the King extended an olive branch to Algeria, calling for a resolution to long-standing tensions over the disputed Western Sahara territory. He reiterated Morocco’s commitment to its 2007 Autonomy Initiative, which proposes limited self-rule for Western Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty.
The proposal has drawn international support over the years, including backing from the United States and the United Kingdom. However, Algeria continues to support the Polisario Front, a movement seeking full independence for the territory.
“We are proud of the growing global support for the Autonomy Initiative as the only realistic and credible solution to the Moroccan Sahara conflict,” King Mohammed VI said. “Yet, we remain committed to a consensual resolution one that preserves the dignity of all involved and avoids producing winners and losers.”
A Call for Lasting Peace
King Mohammed VI emphasized the need for peace and stability in the region, urging a renewed spirit of cooperation with Algeria to move past decades of strained relations.
As Morocco celebrated over two decades of his rule, the King used the occasion to highlight not only national progress but also the importance of diplomacy, unity, and mutual respect across borders.
