Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation, has confirmed that steps are being taken to settle unpaid bonuses owed to the Ghana women’s national football team (Black Queens) after their impressive showing at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Outstanding Payments After Bronze Medal Win
The Black Queens earned bronze in Morocco after defeating South Africa women’s national football team on penalties in July 2024. Despite their success, the players have yet to receive all their promised bonuses, sparking public concern.
Minister’s Assurance

“Their last bonus has not been paid, not all their bonuses,” Kofi Adams told Joy News. “It’s in the process of being worked on. They are not the only ones. Even the U-20 boys have not received their package.”
Pressure Mounts Ahead of Qualifiers
The delay in payment comes just weeks before the Black Queens face Egypt women’s national football team in the final round of qualifiers for the 2026 WAFCON. The tournament will also serve as a qualifying pathway for the next Women’s World Cup.
Team Focus Despite Challenges
Head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren is preparing his side to stay focused on the upcoming match, as stakeholders call for prompt resolution of the payment issue to boost morale ahead of the decisive clash.
