National Mourning Prompts Postponement of Daddy Lumba Vigil After Fatal Helicopter Crash
The Creative Arts Agency has announced the indefinite postponement of the Kumasi edition of the candlelight vigil in honor of the late highlife legend, Daddy Lumba. The decision comes in light of President John Dramani Mahama’s declaration of a three-day national mourning period, following a fatal helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

The vigil, initially scheduled for Saturday, August 9, 2025, will now take place at a later date to be announced. The Creative Arts Agency extended its condolences to the families of the victims and the entire nation, citing the need to show respect and solidarity during this period of national mourning.
Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on July 26, 2025, after a short illness, leaving behind a legacy as one of Ghana’s most influential musicians. A successful vigil was held in Accra on August 2, 2025, which drew hundreds of fans, fellow musicians, and dignitaries to pay tribute to the late legend.
