Robbery Case: Court Hands Down 120-Year Sentence to Armed Robber
In a landmark judgment, Ghanaian High Court has sentenced Dominic Afriyie, a 36-year-old armed robber, to 120 years imprisonment with hard labor and life imprisonment for his brutal crimes. Afriyie’s heinous acts included robbery and murder, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake.
The Chilling Incident
On November 20, 2021, Afriyie broke into the home of Michael Dela Agbo Klu, a 43-year-old building contractor and pharmacist, at Atasemanso, Kumasi. Armed with a gun, Afriyie stole valuables, including two cell phones, a laptop, and GH₵1,500 in cash. Tragically, he also shot Klu to death in cold blood.
The Aftermath
Afriyie’s arrest on December 31, 2021, marked the beginning of the end of his reign of terror. Alongside three others, he was apprehended in a Toyota Corolla, with two pistols and two single-barrel shotguns recovered from the vehicle.
The Verdict
After a thorough trial, a seven-member jury delivered a guilty verdict, and the court handed down a hefty sentence. The judgment serves as a stern warning to would-be offenders, emphasizing the consequences of such heinous crimes.
A Step Towards Justice
The court’s decision has been hailed as a victory for justice, with Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo praising the conviction. Ahianyo reiterated the police’s commitment to community safety, stating, “This conviction underscores our commitment to bringing violent criminals to justice and ensuring the safety of our citizens.”
