A violent shooting in the Westbury area of Johannesburg has left two teenagers dead and five others injured, in what police believe to be a gang-related attack. The incident, which took place on Tuesday, has sent shockwaves through the local community known for its long-standing struggles with gang violence.

According to authorities, the victims aged between 13 and 19 were reportedly targeted while gathered on a street corner. Four suspects approached them on foot, three of whom were armed. Without warning, they opened fire before fleeing the scene.
Police said two of the victims died instantly, while five others sustained varying degrees of injury and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Gauteng Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili confirmed that no arrests had yet been made but emphasized that investigations were underway.
“The Provincial Anti-Gang Unit, supported by SAPS Forensic Services and District Crime Intelligence, is working tirelessly to trace and apprehend those responsible,” Muridili said.
Authorities suspect the shooting was connected to an ongoing feud between rival gangs operating in the area, but declined to provide further details pending the outcome of the investigation.
Community in Mourning
Residents of Westbury expressed outrage and sorrow over the latest spate of violence. Community leaders say the attack underscores the urgent need for increased police presence and youth outreach programs to steer young people away from gang culture.
“This is heartbreaking,” said one resident. “These are children our future being cut down by senseless violence. Something must change.”
