Double victory for Kenya as Sabastian Sawe and Rosemary Wanjiru dominate men’s and women’s races.

Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe stormed to victory in the men’s Berlin Marathon, clocking 2:02:16. The 30-year-old continued his unbeaten marathon streak, making it three wins in his first three races, including his triumph at the London Marathon earlier this year.

Japan’s Akasaki Akira finished second, nearly four minutes behind, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele took third place.

“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” Sawe said after the race. He admitted chasing Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record but faded slightly after reaching the halfway point in 1:00:12.

Kenya celebrated a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon as Sabastian Sawe won the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru took the women’s crown.

Rosemary Wanjiru completed Kenya’s sweep with victory in the women’s event. She broke away from the lead pack after 25km, finishing in 2:21:05.

Ethiopia’s Dera Dida finished second, just three seconds behind, while compatriot Azmera Gebru came third in 2:21:29.

Wanjiru’s performance, though impressive, was well behind Ruth Chepng’etich’s women’s world record of 2:09:56, set in Chicago in 2024.

Kenyan Dominance Continues

The Berlin results underscore Kenya’s dominance in world marathon running, with both Sawe and Wanjiru reinforcing the nation’s reputation for producing elite long-distance champions.
