Al Pacino Says His 3-Year-Old Daughter Intimidated Him Before ‘Scent of a Woman’ Role

Oscar-winning actor Al Pacino has revealed that his eldest daughter, Julie Marie, helped shape his iconic performance in Scent of a Woman — and unintentionally intimidated him in the process.

Julie’s Natural Talent Surprised Him

In a recent interview with E! News, the legendary actor recalled a touching memory from 1992, just before filming began. At the time, Pacino asked his then 3-year-old daughter to pretend to be blind — and her response left him stunned.

“She did it and I thought, ‘Wow, I can’t do this because kids are geniuses,’” Pacino said. “She was blind and she just did it, no preparation, nothing.”

The moment made him feel both awe-struck and challenged as an actor. Pacino would go on to win the Best Actor Oscar for the role the following year.

Now 85, Pacino remains a devoted father to his four children: Julie Marie (35), twins Anton and Olivia (24), and Roman (2). He says being a father has deeply influenced his life and work.

“It changed me for life. And the idea that you’re throwing your focus on other humans who happen to be your children… there’s the love,” he told People last year.

He added that even his youngest child, Roman, whom he shares with Noor Alfallah, inspires him: “Everything he does is real. Everything he does is interesting to me.”

Pacino says he often plays the harmonica for Roman during video calls — a bonding moment he cherishes.

On Becoming a Father Again at 85

Reflecting on welcoming a baby in his 80s, Pacino kept it simple:

“It’s a mini miracle. That’s all I can say.”
