“Everything just changed after Volta” – Highlife Star Shares His Journey

Ghanaian highlife sensation Kuami Eugene has opened up about a pivotal moment in his life, crediting a trip to the Volta Region as the turning point that changed his destiny. In an interview with media personality Doreen Avio, the award-winning musician reflected on how that spiritual journey marked the beginning of his rise to fame.

From Church Drums to Hitmaker Spotlight

Known privately as Eugene Marfo, Kuami Eugene shared that his early years were shaped deeply by service in the church.

“It was that hard in the church till sometime ago I had a friend who took me to Volta Region, and as soon as I came back, all of a sudden, everything just changed,” he said.

After attending a three-day gospel convention with a friend who was a pupil teacher, Kuami returned with renewed energy. That very year, he auditioned for MTN Hitmaker, where he was selected and eventually emerged as second runner-up. Soon after, he was signed by Lynx Entertainment and began a winning streak in Ghana’s music awards scene.

“That was actually where I had my first pay, so shout out to that female friend of mine,” he added, remembering the early blessing.

Kuami Eugene credits the church as the starting point of both his spiritual and musical growth.

“The church taught me everything — how to play the piano, guitar, and drums. Even during tertiary, I was still playing for the church.”

He recalled how he was known as “Minister Eugene Marfo” and emphasized that he continues to see himself as a minister of God even as his musical style has evolved.

A Journey Marked by Grace and Gratitude

Reflecting on his rise from Fadama to fame, the singer was quick to acknowledge the role of divine grace, family, and mentors.

“God has been the tool of my life… My mom, my dad, my family. And then I met mentors like Richie Mensah and Eric Goka — they’ve been very instrumental in my life.”

Kuami Eugene’s gratitude underscores a journey built not just on talent, but also on faith, support, and timing.

A Dominant Force in Ghanaian Music

Since bursting onto the scene with hits like Angela, Wish Me Well, and Open Gate, Kuami Eugene has become a household name. A product of MTN Hitmaker, he has clinched major awards including Highlife Artiste of the Year and Artiste of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

He is currently out with a new single titled “Do Better”, continuing his legacy as one of Ghana’s most inspirational musical talents.
