Renowned Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has hailed The Volta Regime, the debut album by fellow artist Edem Goget’em, as one of the most influential bodies of work in Ghana’s music history.

On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Sarkodie took to Facebook to share his admiration for Edem’s groundbreaking album. He posted a snippet of their collaboration track You Dey Kraze, praising both the project’s impact and Edem’s musical brilliance.

A Lasting Impression

“Undoubtedly one of the greatest albums in Ghana’s music history  I remember when I first encountered my brother Edem I came back home to tell one of my hommies that this guy will have a serious impact on the music scene,” Sarkodie wrote in his post.

He added, “He was like naa because of the language barrier. I said I don’t hear language I hear greatness Big up my brother, you still on my fav mcee list.”

Sarkodie’s statement emphasized that true artistry transcends language, and he saw greatness in Edem from the very beginning. His words have sparked a renewed appreciation for the 2009 album, which helped cement Edem’s place in the music industry.

Sarkodie and Edem have collaborated on numerous occasions, and their careers have often intertwined. From studio recordings to stage performances, their musical chemistry has been evident to fans.

However, their friendship hasn’t always been smooth sailing. A few years ago, Edem publicly expressed frustration over Sarkodie’s lack of support for one of his projects. He stated that despite the love and support he had shown Sarkodie in the past, the response was not reciprocated.

Moments of Tension and Reconciliation

Edem also mentioned a music video in which both he and Sarkodie were featured, but Sarkodie failed to appear for the shoot. While this cost Edem’s team financially, he clarified that he had moved on from the incident without holding any grudges.

The tension continued when an interaction at Richard Nii Armah Quaye’s birthday party was perceived as a snub. Edem later addressed the situation, explaining that the moment was misinterpreted and that the two had resolved any misunderstandings.

Despite these setbacks, their mutual respect seems intact. Sarkodie’s recent tribute confirms that the bond between them remains strong, grounded in admiration and shared musical roots.

Sarkodie’s Upcoming Concert in Kumasi

In the meantime, Sarkodie is preparing for the Kumasi edition of his annual Rapperholic Concert. This will be the second time the show will take place in Kumasi, with the event set for September 27, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Rapperholic concert series has become a staple in Ghana’s entertainment calendar, showcasing some of the best talents in the country. Sarkodie’s decision to return to Kumasi highlights his dedication to connecting with fans across the country.

A Legacy That Endures

The Volta Regime remains a symbol of regional representation and lyrical excellence in Ghanaian music. Edem’s fusion of Ewe rap, hip-hop beats, and authentic storytelling helped break barriers and elevate Volta Region artists on the national stage.

Sarkodie’s public acknowledgment is a reminder of the album’s timeless significance. For many fans, the gesture brings nostalgia and pride, validating The Volta Regime as a classic that paved the way for many up-and-coming rappers from underrepresented regions.
