Bryce James Commits to University of Arizona, Joins Wildcats’ 2025 Recruiting Class
17-year-old Bryce James, who is the son of NBA legend LeBron James, has committed to the University of Arizona and became the part of the Wildcats’ strongly touted 2025 recruiting class. The news was shared on Instagram when Bryce uploaded an edited picture of him wearing Arizona gear on either side of Wildcats head coach Tommy Lloyd with the caption: “100% committed.”
LeBron James, beaming with pride at his youngest son’s achievement, re-posted the same picture on his own Instagram with the message: “CONGRATULATIONS MAXIMUS!! SO PROUD OF YOU!!!”
6-foot-4 Bryce James is a four-star-ranked small forward in the ESPN rankings. In the 2024 season, he played 14 games with Strive for Greatness in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League and averaged 2.2 rebounds and 6.9 points per game. His shooting percentages were impressive at 39% field goal and 36.8% three-point range and caught the eyes of the top college programs.
Before choosing Arizona, Bryce had multiple schools offering him a scholarship, including Ohio State and Duquesne, whose head coach Dru Joyce III is a good friend and former high school teammate of LeBron.

Bryce is accompanied by fellow standout Dwayne Aristode in the 2025 class of Arizona, which currently ranks as one of the country’s top groups. The Wildcats continue to pursue topflight prospects such as Koa Peat, Brayden Burries, and Alijah Arenas, looking to become an even bigger presence in college hoops.
The accomplishment comes at a significant moment for the James family. Bryce’s older brother, Bronny James, competed during the 2023-24 season for USC before suffering a cardiac arrest caused by a congenital heart defect.
Bronny, though, was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft despite the close call in the hospital. LeBron and Bronny became the first father-son combination to play an NBA game together in October.
LeBron, who has dominated the league for nearly 20 years, recently addressed speculation about his retirement.
On his 40th birthday, he suggested he could play for another five to seven years, though he admitted he is unlikely to go that long. Regardless, his influence on the sport now extends through his sons, both of whom are making their mark in basketball.
For the Arizona program, Bryce James offers versatility, high basketball IQ, and solid shooting ability — all things that have the potential to help the team be successful in the future.
Tommy Lloyd and the coaching staff are anxious to shape Bryce’s talent as he gets adjusted to college competition.
With the commitment of Bryce and the comeback of Bronny, the James family is making headlines in college and pro basketball once again. All eyes will now turn to Tucson, where Bryce will begin his new life, pacing the line for one of the greatest families in the game.
