Cities across Morocco were filled with jubilation Sunday night after the nation’s Under-20 football team clinched its first-ever world title. Fans waved flags, honked horns, and sang songs of pride following the team’s 2–0 victory over Argentina national under-20 football team in the final of the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Zabiri Leads Morocco to Glory
Striker Yassir Zabiri became the hero of the night, scoring both goals in the 12th and 29th minutes of the match. His performance secured Morocco’s place in history as the first African nation to lift the trophy since Ghana’s triumph in 2009.

“Dima Maghrib!” Pride Echoes Through the Streets
In Rabat, hundreds of supporters poured into the streets waving red and green flags.
“We are very happy and proud of the Moroccan U20 national team, the Cubs of the Atlas,” said Redouane Ouahidi. “They played a great match. We want to thank Zabiri, Maama, and coach Wahbi. Dima Maghrib! We are proud of this generation.”
Young supporter Chourouk Boutlaka added: “I loved the atmosphere and I’m proud of my country. This victory means everything to us, especially since we defeated Argentina.”

Morocco’s road to glory was anything but easy. The team topped its group against Spain, Brazil and Mexico, before knocking out South Korea, the United States and France in the elimination rounds. Their final win handed Argentina its first defeat of the tournament, amplifying the celebrations across the country.
