A major legal dispute has emerged involving Prince Harry, as an African charity he co-founded has filed a defamation lawsuit against him. The organisation, Sentebale, which supports young people living with HIV in Botswana and Lesotho, lodged the case at London’s High Court following tensions that escalated after Harry stepped down as a patron in 2025.

Court filings indicate that both Prince Harry and his close associate Mark Dyer are being sued over alleged defamatory statements. The dispute traces back to internal disagreements within the charity, particularly over a new fundraising strategy introduced in 2023.

The fallout intensified when Harry and co-founder Prince Seeiso resigned from their roles, citing a breakdown in relations with the board’s chair, Sophie Chandauka. Chandauka later accused Harry of orchestrating a campaign of bullying and harassment aimed at forcing her resignation—claims that have further fueled the legal battle.

An investigation by the Charity Commission for England and Wales criticised both parties for allowing the dispute to unfold publicly, warning that it damaged the charity’s reputation and risked overshadowing its humanitarian work. However, the commission found no evidence of systemic bullying or misogyny within the organisation.

The case now raises serious questions about governance, accountability, and leadership within high-profile charities, especially those linked to global figures. As proceedings continue, the outcome could have lasting implications for the reputation of all involved and the future of the charity’s operations.
