World Cup Final Tickets Shock Fans as Prices Hit £1.7m Each on Resale Market

Football fans have been left stunned after tickets for the FIFA World Cup final were listed for as much as £1.7 million ($2.3 million) each on the official resale platform.

According to FIFA’s resale and exchange marketplace, four premium seats for the final on 19 July at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey are currently listed at the staggering price.

Purchasing all four tickets would cost around $9.2 million (£6.8 million), highlighting the extreme demand and pricing volatility surrounding one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

Other seats in the same section, located behind one of the goals, are also being sold for significantly lower — though still expensive — prices of around $16,000 (£11,953).

While FIFA does not directly control resale pricing, it charges a 15% fee to both buyers and sellers. This means the organisation could potentially earn nearly $600,000 from a single high-value transaction.

The tournament, co-hosted by United States, Canada, and Mexico, is set to begin on 11 June, with the final taking place just over a month later.

Organisers have already faced criticism over ticket affordability, especially compared to previous World Cups where resale prices were capped at face value.

In response to backlash, FIFA introduced a limited number of lower-cost tickets priced at $60 (£45), though availability remains extremely limited.

More than five million tickets have already been sold for the tournament, with the latest sales phase opening earlier this week.

FIFA defended its pricing model, stating that the system reflects standard market practices across major sports and entertainment events, with dynamic pricing used to optimise attendance and align with industry trends.
