Ghanian cinema is gaining even greater visibility on the international scene, as the film Vibes The Movie, an adaptation of the trending Ghanaian social media series, has earned an official selection for the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival TINFF 2026.
The inclusion further solidifies the international appreciation for Ghanaian storytelling, as well as the creative power of the Ghanaian film industry. The film, the directorial debut of Big Ghun and featuring an original cast including the talented Jeffrey Nortey, was based on the viral social media series with the same characters- Obolo Tui and Lil Pui-which exploded due to its mix of rap and comedic yet truthful depiction of the lives, loves, and dreams of young people in Accra.
The movie gained accolades previously after an Outstanding Achievement award at the American Motion Pictures Festival in the USA where it was recognized for its original idea, story, and excellent production. This addition to the film’s filmography continues to chart its impressive international run; traveling from local digital storytelling in Accra to international screens in North America.
Industry critics believe the nominations highlight the rising voice of African cinema globally with more filmmakers from Ghana now able to tell stories that reach beyond borders. Vibes The Movie becomes yet another successful stride for Ghana’s cultural narrative on a global stage.
