Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ayodeji Balogun, also known as Wizkid, has achieved 11 billion streams on Spotify, making him the first African artist to reach this milestone in his global music career.
Music data platform @ChaftsAfrica announced this achievement on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, confirming Wizkid’s historic feat.
The announcement highlighted his consistent record-breaking success, noting he was the first African artist to reach every billion-stream milestone, from 1 billion up to 11 billion.
This accomplishment follows the release of his collaboration with DJ Tunez, “State of Mind,” on May 15. The track garnered over 685,000 Spotify streams globally on its first day. Earlier in January, the artist, fondly referred to as “Big Wiz” by his fans, had already become the first African musician to surpass 10 billion streams on the platform.
Both industry professionals and fans are celebrating this new record as another important moment for African music on the world stage, emphasizing Wizkid’s ongoing influence in global Afrobeats.
