Rwandan musician Florien Uworizagwira, known professionally as Yampano, has been arrested by the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB).
He is facing allegations of assault, issuing threats, and drug-related offenses. RIB spokesperson Thierry Murangira confirmed the arrest to The New Times, stating that the artist was taken into custody on Saturday, May 16.
According to Murangira, the alleged incidents happened at different times. He added that Yampano initially went into hiding after learning about the complaints against him but later surrendered to investigators.
Murangira explained that Yampano went into hiding once he knew complaints were filed and investigators were looking for him. He eventually turned himself in after realizing he had no other option.
Yampano is currently being held at the Kicukiro RIB station as investigations continue. Authorities say his case file is being prepared to be sent to the prosecution for further action.
