Former South African football star Siphiwe Tshabalala is making headlines once again, this time for his impressive move from the football pitch to the classroom at Harvard Business School. The former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder recently revealed that he has been studying alongside Real Madrid and France star Eduardo Camavinga.

Tshabalala, famously remembered for scoring South Africa’s unforgettable opening goal at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, shared photos on social media from the Harvard campus, jokingly referring to Camavinga as his new “classmate.” The post quickly went viral and drew admiration from football fans around the world.

The pair are participating in Harvard Business School’s Business of Entertainment, Media, and Sports (BEMS) programme, led by renowned professor Anita Elberse. The programme focuses on leadership, entrepreneurship, and business development within the sports and entertainment industries.

Reflecting on the experience, Tshabalala described the opportunity as an important new chapter in his life. He said being surrounded by talented individuals from different industries had broadened his perspective and inspired him to continue growing beyond football.

Fans across social media praised the football icon for investing in education after retirement, with many saying his journey serves as motivation for younger athletes and the current Bafana Bafana squad.

The transition also highlights a growing trend among modern athletes who are pursuing education, business ventures, and leadership training after their sporting careers. Tshabalala’s move to Harvard has been widely celebrated as proof that success can continue long after retirement from professional sports.
