Health authorities say the outbreak continues to spread across eastern regions of the country, particularly in Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu provinces, where emergency response operations remain active.

Officials reported 26 new infections and 11 additional deaths in a single day, highlighting the ongoing intensity of transmission despite containment efforts.

A total of 363 patients are currently receiving treatment in isolation centres as medical teams work to control the spread of the virus. Since the outbreak began, 48 people have recovered.

The outbreak was officially declared on May 15 and is being driven by the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, a less common variant that has complicated response efforts on the ground.

Health officials have also reported a case fatality rate of 23.8%, underscoring the severity of the situation as surveillance and community outreach programmes continue across affected areas.
