UK heat record broken for third day in a row as wildfires rage and storms threaten flash floods
June temperatures have hit record levels for the third consecutive day in the UK, with 36.9C recorded in Wattisham, Suffolk, as the country continues to battle extreme heat, wildfires, and worsening weather conditions.
The Met Office says temperatures are still rising in some areas, with large parts of England and Wales under red and amber heat warnings alongside storm alerts and flash flood risks. Firefighters are tackling a major wildfire on Tintwistle Moor that has been burning since Wednesday, while lightning activity has surged, with more than 63,000 strikes recorded in 24 hours.
Experts say the ongoing heatwave is being intensified by climate change, with health officials warning of serious risks, especially for vulnerable groups. Residents across the UK continue to report disruption, health challenges, and transport delays as conditions remain unstable.
