The Brentford player sustained the injury on Sunday after falling awkwardly while attempting to jump over advertising boards near the edge of the pitch. Henderson was not involved in the match but joined teammates and supporters during the post-match celebrations.

The 36-year-old was taken away from the pitch on a stretcher and received medical attention, including oxygen, before being assessed by England’s medical team.

Henderson Confirms Successful Operation

Henderson later confirmed on social media that he had successfully undergone surgery in Kansas City, where England’s squad is based throughout the tournament.

“Surgery done! Let’s get ready for the big one Saturday,” Henderson wrote in an Instagram post.

The midfielder also thanked medical staff at the Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute for their care, particularly the surgeons involved in carrying out the procedure.

Although Henderson is expected to miss the remainder of England’s World Cup campaign, he will remain with the squad and continue supporting the team during the tournament.

Veteran Midfielder Makes World Cup History

Before his injury, Henderson had already made history at the tournament by becoming the first England men’s player to appear at four different World Cups.

He featured as a substitute during England’s 2-0 group-stage victory over Panama, adding another milestone to an international career that has included years of service for the national team.

Despite being unable to contribute on the pitch, Henderson’s experience and leadership remain valuable assets for the England squad as they continue their pursuit of World Cup success.

Tuchel Issues Celebration Warning

Following Henderson’s injury, England manager Thomas Tuchel is reportedly preparing to advise players against jumping over advertising boards during celebrations.

England’s players have developed a tradition of celebrating victories by gathering in front of supporters and singing with fans after matches. However, officials are keen to avoid any similar incidents that could put players at risk.

The injury has added another concern for Tuchel as England prepare for their quarter-final clash against Norway in Miami on Saturday.

England Monitor Additional Injury Concerns

Henderson’s absence comes as England also monitor the fitness of several other key players ahead of the knockout match.

Declan Rice, Reece James and Marc Guehi missed full team training on Wednesday and instead followed individual recovery programmes indoors.

Guehi’s absence was described as a precaution due to a muscular issue, while Rice is managing concerns involving his hamstring and lower back.

James has been recovering from a hamstring problem suffered during England’s opening match against Croatia and has not returned to competitive action.

Despite the concerns, there are currently no indications that Rice, James or Guehi will be ruled out of the quarter-final against Norway.

England will hope their injured players recover quickly as they aim to continue their World Cup journey, while Henderson remains with the squad as a source of experience and support off the pitch.
