The singer was invited by Sony Entertainment Africa to showcase the new project ahead of its official release, giving selected guests a first listen to the 14-track album during an intimate listening experience in Portugal.

Tyla shines on Afro Nation stage

Tyla was one of the headline performers at Afro Nation, taking over the Lit Stage at Praia da Rocha beach before Nigerian superstar Burna Boy.

Performing in front of thousands of fans, the South African artist displayed the energy, confidence and performance style that have helped her become one of Africa’s biggest international music exports.

Her signature dance moves, stage presence and ability to connect with audiences showed why she has gained worldwide recognition since breaking into the global music scene.

Inside the “A*POP” listening experience

Following her Afro Nation performance, Tyla hosted an exclusive house party-style listening session for her upcoming album.

The event featured colourful decorations, balloons, inflatable artwork and graffiti-inspired designs celebrating the theme of “A*POP.”

Guests experienced the album alongside Tyla, who explained the inspiration behind the project and her decision to fully embrace her identity as a pop star.

She said the title represents confidence in becoming the artist she always dreamed of being while staying connected to her South African roots.

Celebrating South African identity

Although the album was created across different parts of the world, Tyla made sure the project was completed in South Africa.

She brought collaborators home to the Cradle of Humankind to finish the album, making the country an important part of the creative process.

Tyla said she never wants to lose the influence of South African sounds in her music, including the unique expressions and rhythms that have shaped her identity as an artist.

A new chapter in her sound

On “A*POP,” Tyla explores her vocals more deeply and said she is excited for fans, known as the Tygers, to hear a different side of her artistry.

The album includes collaborations with local artists and features songs designed to make listeners dance while highlighting South African creativity on a global stage.

Tyla becomes a fashion and performance icon

Beyond music, Tyla has established herself as a major fashion figure, becoming known for her bold Y2K-inspired style and creative looks at major events including the Met Gala, Grammy Awards and international fashion shows.

She explained that fashion allows her to express different versions of herself and bring her imagination to life visually.

Working with leading stylists, Tyla continues to experiment with her image while building a unique global brand.

Global success with African roots

From international performances to major award appearances, Tyla’s career has expanded rapidly, but she continues to credit her team, dancers and creative collaborators for helping bring her ideas to life.

Her performances have become known for their visual storytelling, creativity and connection to African culture.

With “A*POP” set to release on July 24, Tyla is preparing to introduce the world to another chapter of her journey — one that proudly represents South Africa while embracing her place as a global pop star.
